So you got some shaving soap as a gift, and you have tried to apply it, but you are just not getting the same foam thickness as your barber. So here is what you will need to do:

Firstly you will need the following tool.
A shaving brush, Shaving soap and a shaving mug or bowl.
Soak your Shaving brush
- Fill the mug or bowl with enough water to soak the bristles
- Use hot water
- If you are using the natural hair brush, leave it in the water long enough for the water to soak into the brush (Synthetic brushes do not need to be soaked)
Shaving soap
- Add a layer of warm water on top of the soap
- Wait a bit for the soap to soften (this is only required if you have hard soap)
Load the brush
- Empty your bowl or mug
- Shake out the excess water from the brush but not dry
- Place the brush on the soap and apply light pressure, and swirl
- Make sure that the brush bristles are covered with enough soap
Create Lather
- Press the brush or mug into the bowl and swirl
- Pass the bristles through running water
- Repeat twice
- If the lather has bubbles, you need more soap, and if it is too thick you may need more water
- The correct thickness is creamy but firm
Lather Face
- Rinse your face and run your brush through running water
- Swirl the brush in light circles over the face
- Always start from the sideburns and work down to your chin and neck
